How To Store Your Jewelry

7/6/12 ~ By Neida.  If you're like me, you love jewelry and have a lot of it. But if you don't store it and keep it sorted properly, it can be a time waster, not to mention ruin your jewelry. For example, you might pull out a chain you want to wear just to find it knotted beyond hope. Can you see it? You're pulling and navigating the snarls with a safety pin trying to restore the chain? I've been there, believe me. It's like the Rubik's cube challenge! So what do you do?

Here are a few quick tips so you can get your jewelry organized using a few different storage systems.

First of all, if you're lucky enough to be laden with diamonds, pearls and the real deal baubles, I suggest you store all of this valuable jewelry separately. If you have a fireproof safe in your home, keep the jewelry in there. If you have an off-site safety deposit box, you can store the uber-valuable jewelry you would only wear to the Oscars (I wish!) in there.

Then, depending on the amount of everyday jewelry you have, there are a few options.

You can buy a jewelry organizer with multiple compartments to store your jewelry. Typically you'll find small sections for rings and earrings, drawers for bangles and whatnot and even hooks for chains. You can store your jewelry by color, size and more. You can find these organizers in many varied sizes to accommodate how much jewelry you have. And there's no need to run around like chasing down this type of organizer. You can locate them at Target and JC Penney, just to name a few easy-to-find stores.

Do you like stands? You can also find tons of those at your local department store. Bed Bath and Beyond has a bunch of different ones. You know the ones that look like hands or dress forms? Way back when I wasn't a jewelry designer, I used to wear the same jewelry over and over because my stash was hard to get to. How about you? If you find that you are wearing the same necklace over and over, consider a stand instead of a box-type organizer.

And on a final note, are you creative? You can always come up with some fun ways to not only keep your jewelry safe and organized, but also bring some fun into your decor. For example, get some cute small pots from your local craft supply store. Put your rings and smaller pieces in them. Put the pots on your dresser. Done! Or, you know those cute hat racks? Hang one on an accessible bedroom wall and drape your necklaces on the hooks. Voila! You can go to garage sales and find things like a tiered cake dish and store your jewelry there. Pretty! I could go on and on but what I am basically suggesting is that you think out of the box and let your creativity fly!
